Using Research to Write the Self with Natalie Lima
Underground, Harrison Center
presented by Indiana University Research Arts & Humanities
Are you working on personal narrative and interested in reaching beyond the self and bringing in what the industry calls memoir-plus?
In this workshop, we'll consider different approaches for bringing in the "plus" (history, politics, science, criticism, etc.) into our personal story and what that means in today's ever-changing creative nonfiction/memoir landscape. We'll take a look at and discuss recent nonfiction and use a generative writing exercise to get ideas flowing in this 60-minute session.
Natalie Lima is a Cuban-Puerto Rican writer and a graduate of the MFA program at the University of Arizona. Her writing has been honored in Best Small Fictions, noted twice in Best American Essays, and she’s received fellowships from Bread Loaf Writers, PEN America Emerging Voices, the VONA/Voices Workshop, the Mellon Foundation, Tin House Workshops, and Hedgebrook. Lima is an Assistant Professor of English at Butler University.
