Through the Side Door with Alessandra Lynch
Underground, Harrison Center
presented by Indiana University Research Arts & Humanities
In this generative poetry workshop, we will be spawning several sprawls of poetic language. Here, we will hitch a ride from other poets’ work to travel wildly through our own distinctive writing; we will scribble and draw our way into and through our poetic psyches; we will pull mystery cards that serve as doors into our inner worlds. By the end of the hour, you will have at least five interesting drafts or seedlings for poems.
Alessandra Lynch is the author of five poetry collections: Wish Ave (shortlisted for the Indiana Authors Awards), Pretty Tripwire (long listed for the Julie Suk Award), Daylily Called It a Dangerous Moment (winner of the Balcones Prize for Poetry, finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award and the Rilke Prize for Poetry, as well as one of the New York Times’ Best Books of 2017), It was a terrible cloud at twilight (winner of the Lena Miles Wever-Todd Award), and Sails the Wind Left Behind (winner of the Alice James NY/New England Prize). Her poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review, the Kenyon Review, the Massachusetts Review, the New England Review, Ploughshares, and other journals. She has received fellowships from Yaddo, MacDowell, the Vermont Studio Center, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Lannan Foundation. She has also received a Barbara Deming Award and a Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship. Currently she serves as Butler University’s poet in residence. Alessandra also works as an editor/advisor/guide for poetry and prose manuscripts: www.alessandralynch.com
