Literary Comics with Lauren Haldeman

presented by Indiana University Research Arts & Humanities

In this class, graphic novelist and poet Lauren Haldeman proposes the boisterous claim that you don't need to be "good at drawing” to make literary comics. Anyone can do it, and do it well. We will look at examples of a wide range of comic forms, have an in-class exercise and a sharing session at the end.

Lauren Haldeman is the author of the graphic novels Wild That We’re Alive and Team Photograph and the poetry collections Instead of Dying (winner of the Colorado Prize for Poetry) and Calenday. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, she has received a Vermont Studio Center residency, Iowa Arts Fellowship and a Sustainable Arts Foundation Award. She is currently posting her weekly comics on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laurenhaldeman
