30 Ways In 30 Days to make a difference – Sept 1

September is Hunger Action Month and we need your help to end hunger in the tri-state. What will you do to help end hunger in the tri-state?
1.Donate food and funds
2.Volunteer at Tri-State Food Bank, or a local food pantry, soup kitchen, or shelter.
3.Organize events and fundraisers.
4.Advocate -Raise your voice for hunger relief with your friends, neighbors, and elected officials.

 Northeast Indiana Town Hall Meeting: Hunger and its Solutions – Sept 9
Join us for a Town Hall Meeting on Hunger in NE Indiana. Area experts will address: the state of hunger and hunger relief in NE IN hunger; hunger and its impact on education, health, and the economy; how one community responded to increasing hunger; the federal and state legislative view of hunger relief; and the role business and agriculture can play in feeding northeast Indiana’s hungry. The public is invited and encouraged to participate that evening with their questions and ideas.

USF Feeds the Fort – Sept 9
This community-wide food drive will help raise needed food and funds to help feed hungry people in northeast Indiana. To donate drop-off non-perishable food items in non-breakable containers to barrels on the University of Saint Francis campus located on Spring street in Fort Wayne. Or visit www.chfb.org to donated money to purchase specific food items via the CHFB Virtual Food Drive.

About Hunger and Resilience: Photographs and Audio Stories by Michael Nye – Aug 28
An emotional exhibit created by the artist who traveled around the United States for over four years capturing stories of people who have been touched by hunger. The exhibit will open with a free reception that is open to the public on August 28, 7-10pm (Hors d’oeuvres & cash bar). The artist will present a lecture prior to the reception at 6pm in the North Campus at the University of Saint Francis located at 2702 Spring Street. The exhibit will run through September 26th. Gallery hours: M-F, 9a-5p; Sat., 10a-5p; Sun., 1-5p.

Give a Little Feed a Lot Mobile Pantry with Jewel-Osco – Sept 9
We are holding a mobile pantry from 7AM to 10AM in the parking lot of the Jewel-Osco store in Dyer, Ind. Last year we served 1,000 people at this event and are looking to feed the same, if not more, people this year. Anyone in need of food assistance from Lake or Porter Counties can attend. All that’s needed is a valid photo ID. Volunteers and donations are welcome. Please contact the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana for more details.
