Readers, start your engines! We’re sharing a starting field of 33 poems – just like the race itself – as we lead up to the Indy 500 on May 26. The original poems come from a 2016 contest, sponsored by Indiana Humanities and the 100th Running Host Committee. The Indy 500 Official Poetry Contest revived a tradition from the 1920s, when an official poem was included in the race day program. Today’s poem is the winner from last year: “For Those Who Love Fast, Loud Things” by Adam Henze. Click on the image below to enlarge the poem.
