Based in Indianapolis and formed in 2004, Big Car is a collective of more than 30 visual artists, writers, musicians and thinkers who work together to explore the notions of people and place and the unique aspects of community that connect them. Big Car sparks creative ideas and completes cultural projects and events that make Indianapolis a better place. Current and upcoming projects include Tour de Art – an ambitious citywide event that blends bicycling with art and beer, the 48 Hour Film Project, four neighborhood CreateIndy neighborhood projects and assisting the Kurt Vonnegut Library with design and displays. Big Car is also opening an 11,500-square foot community creativity space with a community garden, creativity lab, lending library, neighborhood stories video screening room, large-scale exhibition and community space and performance space. The unique community garden was built from scratch on a parking lot surface. Click here to see a video of the garden’s construction and Mayor Greg Ballard’s visit to the site.
