Event Details

Afrofuturism is a framework to critique the present that’s rooted in Black history and culture as it dreams of possible futures. For the Kheprw Institute, having an Afrofuturist lens represents a public statement of the attitude and mindset of the organization and community, about creating desired future states in the present by constantly reimagining the work and the way the community moves through the world.

Join Kheprw for an exploration on the powerful history of the Norwood community and Indiana Avenue, what it looks like to investigate our past as a way to interrogate our collective identity, and possible pathways forward. Guests are Kaila Austin, an artist, public historian and community activist who trains historically African American communities on how to mobilize their histories to save their ancestral spaces in the face of gentrification, and Wildstyle Paschall, a writer, photographer, musician and editor who has worked with many community groups on initiatives from community gardens to community art projects to affordable housing.
