Event Details
As part of public programming for the 2023 National Humanities Conference, organized in partnership with Federation of State Humanities Councils, National Humanities Alliance, and Indiana Humanities, see a sneak peak of Three Chaplains, a new PBS documentary–
Muslim chaplains aim to make change in one of America’s most powerful institutions—the military—where they support and defend the religious rights of all service members. But their leadership sparks accusations of disloyalty and even disapproval from within their own communities. Resisting calls to blend in, the chaplains fight to maintain a balanced devotion to Islam, the Constitution and the military. For them, the fight for equality and religious freedom begins on the inside.
Three Chaplains will be preceded by a short film from the award-winning WFYI series Arab Indianapolis: A Hidden History. David Washburn and Razi Jafri (filmmakers, Three Chaplains), IUPUI Professor Edward Curtis IV (Arab Indianapolis) will be in attendance. Event made possible by a grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations. Co-presented by Indiana Humanities and WFYI, with sponsorship from Mass Humanities.
