Event Details
To engage the community with its campus, Indiana University South Bend presents Pop-Up University at LangLab, a free public lecture series consisting of TED-style talks by IU South Bend faculty. These virtual lectures take place on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
March’s program features K. Andrea Rusnock, professor of art history, exploring “The Political Power of Needlework.” While many view needlework as little more than knickknacks made by grandmothers, it’s much more than that. One fascinating use of needle arts has been in the service of politics, both for protest and to bring awareness to social causes (think the AIDS quilt and the work of British suffragists). The world over, people have used needlework as means to a political end all while creating fabulous art, and Rusnook will delve into this theme during her talk.
