Myaamiaki “Miami People”: A Living People with a Past

The opening of the exhibit Meehkweelintamankwi Aanchsahaaciki: Our Forced Removal starts with a talk by Diane Hunter, cultural resource officer for the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, who will discuss the history and current activities of the Miami People. Hunter’s descriptions of the Myaamia People and what took place on the forced removal of the Myaamia to Kansas are very moving and enlightening.

Attendees may visit the exhibit Meehkweelintamankwi Aanchsahaaciki: Our Forced Removal for free before and following the presentation. The Whitley County Historical Museum will host the exhibit through September 30, 2022.
