Event Details

In February, the Indiana Uplands Winter Food Conference will present three sessions on updating the narrative about food and farming in Indiana. The sessions center on work that the Hoosier Young Farmers Coalition has been carrying out in recent years.

The second session is the “Future (of Farming) Is Female Panel.” Women farmers from around Indiana will share what it’s like to be a farmer in a world where everyone expects farmers to be male. They’ll dive into the different roles women carry out on the farm, from the fields to the spreadsheets, and will discuss how they face—and break—gender stereotypes in the agricultural world. This panel discussion builds on the Hoosier Young Farmers Coalition podcast episode “Women in Farming.”  Listen to the full podcast series here on the Hoosier Young Famers Coalition’s website.

The Indiana Uplands Winter Food Conference is sponsored by the Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement and the Indiana University Food Institute and is co-led with partners from the Indiana Department of Health and the Hoosier Young Farmers Coalition. For details about the conference, visit the conference website. To register for the conference, click on the RSVP link above. Registration is free, although conference organizers request a $10 donation from those who are able to help offset costs.

For more information about the conference, contact the Indiana University Office of Conference and Event Registration Services at iuconfs@iu.edu.

The Hoosier Young Farmers Coalition’s podcast received support from an Indiana Humanities Innovation Grant.
