Indiana Uplands Winter Food Conference: Reveal Party (and Listening Session)—Launching a Statewide Sustainable Food and Farming Organization
Learn about efforts to build in Indiana a statewide sustainable farming organization that brings together eaters, farmers and people working to strengthen the food system.
Event Details
In February, the Indiana Uplands Winter Food Conference will present three sessions on updating the narrative about food and farming in Indiana. The sessions center on work that the Hoosier Young Farmers Coalition has been carrying out in recent years.
The third session is the “Reveal Party (and Listening Session)—Launching a Statewide Sustainable Food and Farming Organization.” Most states have a statewide sustainable farming organization that brings together eaters, farmers and people working to strengthen the food system—and it’s time to build a coalition like this for Indiana. The Hoosier Young Farmers Coalition and partners around the state have secured substantial seed money to launch a food and farming organization for Indiana. Now they want to listen to farmers and food system advocates from around the state, to shape the organization and their work. This new nonprofit will serve sustainable farmers of all sorts, food councils, farmer organizations and others working on food and farming in Indiana. In this session, representatives from the Hoosier Young Farmers Coalition will host a “reveal party” to outline what they’ve accomplished so far, share the results from their recent farmer survey, discuss what they’re envisioning (so far) for the next three years and learn what the community needs from the group.
The Indiana Uplands Winter Food Conference is sponsored by the Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement and the Indiana University Food Institute and is co-led with partners from the Indiana Department of Health and the Hoosier Young Farmers Coalition. For details about the conference, visit the conference website. To register for the conference, click on the RSVP link above. Registration is free, although conference organizers request a $10 donation from those who are able to help offset costs.
For more information about the conference, contact the Indiana University Office of Conference and Event Registration Services at iuconfs@iu.edu.
The Hoosier Young Farmers Coalition received support from an Indiana Humanities Innovation Grant to develop a podcast about the diverse people who are farming in Indiana today.
