In early June, the Downtown Angola Coalition will dedicate a sculpture of abolitionist Sojourner Truth on the Steuben County courthouse lawn. The sculpture commemorates a month-long visit that Truth made to the county in May 1861, which included a speech on the courthouse lawn. The sculpture received funding through a Preserving Women’s Legacy Grant offered by Indiana Humanities and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
In conjunction with the dedication, Angola resident Tom Adams and his friends will present an evening of Civil War music. The program takes place Friday, June 4, at Cahoots Coffee Cafe.
