Event Details

The black m(othering project hosts the black m(othering showcase featuring four multidisciplinary artists who are Black mothers. Angenita Williams, Alex Verdeflor, elle roberts and Uzuri Asad will present works that align with the theme of Nina Simone’s song “Four Women.” Januarie York will introduce the program with a poetic tribute to Anitra Malone, a fellow poet and Black mother in whose memory the showcase is presented.

The event is open to all ages, but performances are uncensored. Light refreshments will be served.

All adult attendees are required to mask when not enjoying refreshments. Young people in attendance will not be required to mask but may if they would like to and feel comfortable doing so. Free adult- and child-size masks will be provided at entry. There will be an air purifier on stage. Weather permitting, the garage doors at Re:Public will be open.

The black m(othering project is an exploration of Black mothering across the state of Indiana, across gender identities and across living histories. Organizer elle roberts is carrying out the project through the support of the Black Joy Fund and an Indiana Humanities Wilma Gibbs Moore Fellowship.
