Event Details
This May, the Friends of the Frankfort Public Library are hosting A Walk in Our Parks, a series of public programs that celebrate our national and state parks.
Mark Woods, author of Lassoing the Sun: A Year in America’s National Parks, will kick off the programming with a virtual author talk on Thursday, May 5, at 6 p.m.
On the eve of turning 50 and a little burned out, Woods decided to reconnect with the great outdoors. He planned to spend a year visiting the national parks, re-creating his trips to the parks as a youth. But then his mother was diagnosed with cancer and given just months to live. Woods had initially intended to write a book about the future of the national parks, but Lassoing the Sun grew into something more: a book about family, the parks, and the legacies we inherit and the ones we leave behind. In his talk, Woods will share more about his journey and the lessons he learned.
