Event Details

This May, the Friends of the Frankfort Public Library are hosting A Walk in Our Parks, a series of public programs that celebrate our national and state parks, and on the evening of May 13 they’re honoring the parks in the Hoosier State.

  • At 5 p.m., Nathan Strange, author of The Complete Guide to Indiana State Parks, will discuss his book. In addition to writing, Strange is a naturalist who has visited all 25 state parks. He profiles each park in his book, providing an engaging history and descriptions of the best trails.
  • At 6:30 p.m., Glory-June Greiff, Indiana historian and author of People, Parks, and Perceptions: A History and Appreciation of Indiana State Parks, will deliver a talk. Greiff has been working on history and preservation projects for 30 years and has a wealth of knowledge about our parks and history in general. One of her most recent achievements was helping to add Frankfort’s TPA Park to the National Register of Historic Places. She will dive deeply into the creation of the Civilian Conservation Corps and the work the CCC carried out in our state parks.
  • Beginning at 3:30 p.m., the library will host additional activities, including campfire stories with the library’s Children’s Department, a sampling of campfire treats prepared by Girl Scout Troop #810 and Hoppy Bray, and a presentation by Indiana Dunes National Park ranger Kip Walton (with the help of a few animal friends).
