
“‘Teaching Freedom and Unfreedom’: Teaching the Coffins and the Underground Railroad” Educator Workshop

Join fellow educators to learn how Levi and Catharine Coffin were instrumental in creating one of the most successful safehouses on the Underground Railroad in Indiana through a guided tour of the Coffin home. Discover how to use the experiences of the Coffins to teach about the Underground Railroad through a provided curriculum, which includes one primary and one secondary resource for the classroom. Listen to local writer Randall Wisehart speak about his young adult novel Luke’s Summer Secret (historical fiction that features the Coffins) and how to incorporate it into lesson plans.
This program is recommended for educators in grades 3 to 8.
