Event Details
The first Sunday of the month, the Allen County–Fort Wayne Historical Society presents the George R. Mather Sunday Lecture Series. The series offers presentations by experts on history and other humanities subjects, often illuminating the role that Allen County people and events have played in the broader scope of national and international affairs.
This month’s lecture is “Spectacles, Politics, and Patriotism: Cultural Uses of Joan of Arc in Fort Wayne and Beyond” presented by Dr. Suzanne LaVere, associate professor of history at Purdue University Fort Wayne. Using examples from Fort Wayne and Indiana media, Dr. LaVere will explore the many ways that Joan of Arc’s image was deployed in late-19th and early-20th-century American culture and society.
