Event Details

The City of Richmond’s Historic Preservation Commission is hosting a series of workshops to educate the community about the importance of historic preservation and to provide guidance and instruction around common concerns, such as repairs to plaster, windows, and bricks and mortar.

The first workshop, “Preservation 101,” begins with a session on understanding Richmond’s history, presented by Dr. Tom Hamm, professor emeritus of history at Earlham College, and Sue King, an archivist at Richmond’s Morrisson-Reeves Library. The workshop then explores the basics of historic preservation (including historic preservation incentives, laws and considerations), practical aspects of historic preservation (such as assessment and documentation, basic repair techniques and preventative measures) and resources (including local resources and how to get involved).
