1876 Centennial Quilt Project Gallery Talk

Nearly a decade ago, a quilting group from northwest Washington state discovered in an online quilt history forum an extraordinary quilt known as the 1876 Centennial Quilt. Set in a unique medallion-style arrangement, the Centennial Quilt contains over 70 individual block patterns. After securing permission from the owner, members of the quilt group began the journey of patterning the Centennial Quilt. Each of the quiltmakers skillfully and beautifully interpreted the original quilt in a wide variety of styles. As they honed their skills, they learned much about themselves and forged lasting friendships. The Quilters Hall of Fame is currently exhibiting a mix of the reinterpreted quilts from the original project begun in 2015 as well as more recent creations that have been added as the reach of the 1876 Centennial Quilt Project has grown. The exhibit invites you to enjoy the quilts, read the stories of the people who created them, and to begin your own journey with the 1876 Centennial Quilt. Anne Dawson of the Quilter’s Studio curated the exhibit, and at this gallery talk, she’ll walk through the Quilter Hall of Fame’s galleries sharing information about each quilt.

In addition to this program, Anne Dawson will also give another gallery talk on July 22 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will deliver a presentation on July 22 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The exhibition is open to the public during the Quilters Hall of Fame’s regular hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, and free for children under 12 who are accompanied by an adult.
