Event Details

Last year, as part of the Indiana Women’s Suffrage Centennial, Rediscover Downtown Peru (RDP) received a Preserving Women’s Legacy Grant from Indiana Humanities and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to honor the history of women in Peru, Indiana. RDP used the funds to create a sculpture of Marie Stuart Edwards, a Peru resident who played a significant national role in the suffrage movement.

On August 26, RDP will unveil the completed sculpture. Activities begin at 10:30 a.m. with a women’s history “March for Marie” from the River Walkway Park to the Peru Public Library. Guests can enjoy music and vendors at the library until noon, when remarks begin. Indiana lieutenant governor Suzanne Crouch will be the final presenter and will help to unveil the sculpture.
