Happy Birthday, Katie Glick!

Katie Glick is the chair of Indiana Humanities’ board of directors.

This year, as I celebrate a “significant” birthday milestone, I’ve been reflecting on the places and people that have shaped me. It’s been my family, friends, colleagues, and people from every corner of Indiana and beyond that have made my 40 years so blessed. One organization that has had a significant impact on me over the past few years is Indiana Humanities.

As I’ve shared before, it sometimes feels like I’ve been connected to Indiana Humanities forever because it has long been my intellectual and cultural home – a place where I feel encouraged to listen, learn, and exchange ideas with people who bring their own stories and curiosities to the table. It’s a place of peace that is full of growth, opportunity, and reflection in our chaotic but beautiful world. 

Like all of us, I engage with the humanities every day often without even realizing it. It’s in how we reflect on our past, how we try to understand one another, and how we look for meaning in our shared experiences. The humanities help us see both what connects us and what makes us unique and in doing so, they bring us closer together.

I’m not having a party or traveling for my birthday (mainly because it’s county fair time and I have a deep love for 4-H and the fair). So, for my birthday, I’m focusing my energy on a slow day with a good book and museum trip AND encouraging others to support Indiana Humanities.
