Join Indiana Humanities in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, an annual celebration of Hispanic culture, history, art, and more.  We’ve identified some statewide events we’re looking forward to this month and welcome you to check out the list below to see how your region is celebrating.  

Sept. 28 | Latino Heritage Celebration | Indianapolis 

Hosted by the International Marketplace Coalition at Indy’s Global Village Welcome Center, this festival will celebrate Latino heritage, commerce, and local business. Gather at Indy’s Global Village Welcome Center to support vendors and performers at this celebration. 

Oct. 5 | Hispanic Heritage Month Festival | Indianapolis 

Taking place at Community Alliance of the Far East (CAFE) from 11am to 2pm, this is an opportunity to bring your friends and family to celebrate with food, resources, music, performances, vendors, games, and more. This free event requires registration. 

Oct. 13 | Cruces de Caminos/Intersections | Bloomington 

Celebrating the movements of the diaspora, the evening’s opening act is by the Legendary African American Dance Company with a performance that highlights the interconnections of Latinx and Black diasporic dance, spirituality, and culture at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. A discussion moderated by professors Solimar Otero and Eric Mayer-Garcia will take place after the show. 

Oct. 13 Fiesta Evansville 10th Anniversary | Evansville 

From 11am to 5pm at Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve, this is the largest Latino Festival in the region. This year’s celebration brings international performers, cultural exhibits, international food, and several entertainment booths for the whole family – including hot air balloons. 

Oct. 15 | Film Screening: Street Heroines | Gary 

At IU Northwest starting at 1pm in the John W. Anderson Library, the school will be screening of “Street Heroines,” an award-winning documentary that explores the courage and creativity of Latina graffiti and street artists, women who create art in the name of equality, and the celebration of cultural identity. Refreshments will be served. 

Sept. 14-Oct. 15 | Celebrating Latino and Hispanic Heritage | Indianapolis 

Explore the Indiana Historical Society’s exhibits celebrating Latino and Hispanic Heritage, from art installations to special programming. In addition to its regularly scheduled programming, it will feature a traveling exhibit, “Be Heard: Latino Experiences in Indiana,” and a display of historical Folklorico costumes.
