Slate.com examines the intricacies of rivalry in its recent series dedicated to the topic. The series highlights a plethora of the most legendary rivalries of our time, from sports teams to Pepsi vs Coke.

From Slate’s introduction to the series:

“As Shakespeare once told us, ‘Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.’ And some, he might have added, rise to greatness because of the presence—and the provocations—of a worthy rival.”

The theme of rivalries ties back into the Spirit of Competition program here at Indiana Humanities, which encourages participants to examine competition through the lens of civility, rivalry, passion, innovation and failure.
