Join the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy for a yearlong series featuring comedy films that either won or were nominated for an Academy Award. The series takes place on the fourth Tuesday of the month, starting in October 2022 with a discussion on why comedy films are often overlooked at Oscar time and a preview of the upcoming series. The screenings begin in November 2022 and run through August 2023. Each month features a film from a different decade, beginning with the 1930s and progressing through the 2020s. After each screening, a panel of experts facilitates a discussion. The series wraps up in September 2023 with an “Oscar Laughs” awards ceremony at which attendees vote on the best films from the series in several categories.
This month’s featured film: The Egg and I (1947)
On their wedding night, Bob reveals to Betty that he has purchased an abandoned chicken farm. Betty struggles to adapt to their new rural lifestyle, especially when a glamorous neighbor seems to set her eyes on Bob.
These events are free and open to the public, but attendees are asked to register in advance using the Eventbrite link on the series’ webpage (reached via the RSVP button above).
