Event Details

As part of ChamberFest Brown County, Dr. Roman Ivanovitch will present a lecture titled “Caring for Beethoven.” The lecture will introduce audiences to information about Ludwig van Beethoven’s life and will provide insight into the works that will be performed during the six-day festival. In addition, it will shed light onto recent scholarship regarding the composer’s legacy and how it relates to present-day racial and political tensions. The title “Caring for Beethoven” is thus meant in a double sense: caring about Beethoven—the man and his music—and also looking after him—being sensitive to his enormous legacy and what it means.

Part of ChamberFest’s mission is to bridge divides between audiences of all types, and education is an important component. The goal of ChamberFest programs, including Dr. Ivanovitch’s lecture, is to provide historical and social context that will help enrich the listening experience, so those unfamiliar with classical music are welcome and encouraged to attend.
