Event Details

Indiana Humanities is partnering with Indiana Dunes National Park to offer a rare evening Campfires trek. Our journey will take us through the park’s Miller Woods, where we’ll enjoy a full moon and experience habitats unique to the Dunes, including wetlands, rare black oak savanna, open dunes and beach.

The trek will be co-led by a Hoosier humanities scholar as well as a ranger from the park. As we explore the landscape, we’ll stop to read short works by nature writers. The trek will conclude with a shared discussion around a campfire.

Please note that while this program is free as part of a special partnership with Indiana Dunes National Park, you’ll need to pay admission to the park. For information about park fees, visit the Indiana Dunes National Park website.

ABOUT CAMPFIRES

Indiana Humanities’ award-winning Campfires program pairs nature and literature to spark conversations about Indiana’s future. Something about the combination of wild places, great writing and a warm campfire gets Hoosiers talking in fresh and surprising ways about the world around us and our place in it.

ABOUT INDIANA HUMANITIES

Indiana Humanities connects people, opens minds and enriches lives by creating and facilitating programs that encourage Hoosiers to think, read and talk.

ABOUT INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL PARK

Stretching along 15 miles of the southern shore of Lake Michigan, Indiana Dunes National Park offers an incredible diversity of habitats and visitor experiences. Beyond the sandy beaches, visitors can explore rugged dunes, quiet forests and tranquil wetlands along 50 miles of hiking trails. World-class birding and over 1,100 native plant species makes this 15,000 acre park among the most biologically rich in the nation.

Indiana Humanities will make reasonable modifications to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy our programs. If you need an accommodation, please email Sam Opsahl at sopsahl@indianahumanities.org.
