Event Details

Indiana Humanities is excited to partner with the Falls of the Ohio Foundation for a journey through the Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville. During this event, we’ll engage with environmental culture and history as we wander through fossil beds, riverbanks and forests.

We’ll be joined on our trek by local author and journalist Bob Hill as well as a park naturalist. Along the way, Hill will offer multiple short readings to guide our conversation about the park’s flora and fauna. The trek will conclude with a shared discussion around a campfire with beer and s’mores.

Your ticket price includes Upland Brewing Company beers and snacks for the trail, in addition to any entrance or rental fees associated with the trek.

ABOUT CAMPFIRES

Indiana Humanities’ award-winning Campfires program pairs nature and literature to spark conversations about Indiana’s future. Something about the combination of wild places, great writing, a warm campfire and cold beer gets Hoosiers talking in fresh and surprising ways about the world around us and our place in it.

ABOUT INDIANA HUMANITIES

Indiana Humanities connects people, opens minds and enriches lives by creating and facilitating programs that encourage Hoosiers to think, read and talk.

ABOUT FALLS OF THE OHIO STATE PARK

The Falls of the Ohio State Park and its interpretive center are the crossroads of ancient lives and future hopes. The park features the largest exposed Devonian fossil bed in the world and is part of a 1,404-acre National Wildlife Conservation Area. Perched on a small bluff overlooking a wide sweep of the expansive Ohio River, a newly revitalized state of the art, immersive and interactive interpretive center brings to life giant fossil beds telling a story 390 million years in the making. The Falls of the Ohio connects the environment of the ancient past with the natural and cultural history of yesterday and today. Whether you love fossils, wildlife or history, this is a place you will want to explore!
