Event Details

Arab Indianapolis: A Hidden History, an official selection of the 31st annual Heartland International Film Festival, features IUPUI professor and historian Dr. Edward E. Curtis IV as he explores stories of Arab Americans across Indianapolis through food, health, religion and more. Following the screening of the hour-long film, a community discussion will be facilitated by Purdue professor of religious studies, Dr. Ashley Purpura, as well as a historian of religion, a sociologist, and an Islamic Studies faculty member.

The Religious Studies program at Purdue aims to promote discussion of the importance of religious identity and diverse heritages locally. Dr. Purpura is currently teaching a course on how religious diversity shapes the secular society around it and will use this event as an opportunity to talk about that in connection with other aspects of identity.
