SUMMARY:Campfires: Tom and Jane Dustin Nature Preserve (Fort Wayne)
DESCRIPTION:The Tom and Jane Dustin Nature Preserve is one of three nature preserves that sit along the Cedar Creek corridor near Fort Wayne\, Indiana—the largest remaining forested corridor in Allen County. ACRES Land Trust protects these lands and will serve as our host for this Campfire. We’ll explore a loop trail that winds through the preserves; along the way we’ll experience meadows\, woodlands and wetlands and learn about the preserves’ flora and fauna. \nThe Campfire trek will be co-led by a humanities scholar and a naturalist. Along the way\, we’ll stop to read short writings by nature writers. The trek will conclude with a shared meal and discussion around a campfire.   \nYour ticket price includes a campfire meal\, Upland Brewing Co. beers\, and snacks for the trail in addition to any entrance or rental fees associated with the trek. \nWHERE: Tom and Jane Dustin Nature Preserve (ACRES Land Trust) \nWHEN: May 22\, 2023\, 5 – 7 p.m. EDT \nSCHOLAR-FACILITATOR: TBD \nTRAIL DIFFICULTY:  Easy; relatively flat\, earthen trails \nTHINGS TO KEEP IN MIND \n\nA limited number of free tickets are available based on need\, please contact Sam Opsahl at sopsahl@indianahumanities.org. \nDepending on weather\, some trails may be wet\, so wear shoes that can handle the mud! \nPlease bring a reuseable water bottle to take with you on the outing. \nWe will send a final confirmation two days before the event with driving and parking instructions and any other updates. \nIn case of inclement weather\, Indiana Humanities will cancel the event and alert you via email at least two hours prior to event start time.
