DESCRIPTION:Behold the beauty of Indiana’s most famous and historic river! Journey back in time to when the lands around the Wabash River were America’s Western frontier—a world as wild as it was beautiful—and meet the people and places that make up the river’s rich history. \nProduced for Indiana’s Bicentennial celebration in 2016\, Along the Wabash tells the story of Indiana’s state river\, following its course from the headwaters in Ohio to its end in New Harmony\, Indiana. Immediately following the screening there will be short presentation and question and answer session by the documentary’s writer\, producer\, and director\, Susanne Schwibs.

SUMMARY:Mussels: A Shell of Indiana’s Rivers
DESCRIPTION:The past\, present and future of Indiana’s water can be told through our 75-plus species of freshwater mussels\, which places Indiana in the top ten of U.S. states for mussel diversity. From Native American use to Indiana’s thriving pearl button industry to the cultured pearl trade\, Indiana’s freshwater mussels and bountiful rivers have sustained life and livelihoods. As filter feeders\, freshwater mussels can only survive in clean rivers\, and inversely\, their filter feeding also cleans water. The history of people and mussels has left a mark on the health of our rivers. Join Cassie Hauswald of The Nature Conservatory in Indiana to learn about positive choices for water that can keep the story of mussels in Indiana alive and well. \n

SUMMARY:Water/Ways Indiana Tour: New Harmony
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Atheneum in Historic New Harmony to see Water/Ways! Please visit the Historic New Harmony website to confirm visitation times and guidelines. \nThe Smithsonian’s Water/Ways exhibition dives into water–an essential component of life on our planet\, environmentally\, culturally\, and historically.  \nIn societies across the globe\, water serves as a source of peace and contemplation. Many faiths revere water as a sacred symbol. Authors and artists are inspired by the complex character of water–a substance that is seemingly soft and graceful that is yet a powerful and nearly unstoppable force.  \nWater also plays a practical role in American society. The availability of water affected settlement and migration patterns. Access to water and control of water resources have long been a central part of political and economic planning. Human creativity and resourcefulness provide new ways of protecting water resources and renewing respect for the natural environment.
