SUMMARY:Exploring the History and Legacy of Slavery in Indiana
DESCRIPTION:The Jennings County Historical Society hosts its “Exploring the History and Legacy of Slavery in Indiana” series featuring Sue Livers\, a historian of Indiana’s Black history. Livers will present programs that explain the ways that slavery existed in Indiana\, discuss enslaved people’s lives and their struggles for freedom in Indiana’s early years\, examine the long-term effects of slavery on Black communities in the region\, and talk about lynchings in the state. \nFor more information\, call the Jennings County Historical Society at 812.346.8989 or visit its website. \nThis program received support from an Indiana Humanities Mini-Grant.

SUMMARY:Smithsonian’s Voices and Votes: Democracy in America Exhibition (Vernon)
DESCRIPTION:The Smithsonian’s traveling exhibition\, Voices and Votes: Democracy in America\, will continue its tour of Indiana at the Jennings County Historical Society in Vernon where it will be on display from Nov. 28\, 2026-Jan. 10\, 2027. The exhibition gives an in-depth look on America’s democracy and brings discussions about democracy to local communities. Host organizations will present a companion exhibition and series of programs in their communities during the exhibits six-week visit.  \nThe exhibit will tour the seven small towns across Indiana during the Semiquincentennial\, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
