SUMMARY:"How We Imagine Climate Change and Why It Matters"
DESCRIPTION:We already have the technological and economic solutions we need to address climate change; what we lack is the cultural unity\, will\, and imagination. \nScott Hess\, Earlham College Environmental Studies professor\, will engage with how we imagine (and represent) climate change\, including various forms of public discourse as well as literature\, film\, and the visual arts\, and why it matters. His talk will explore how people with different cultural identities—including different political affiliations\, educational backgrounds\, races\, and socioeconomic situations—tend to respond to climate change differently; how those differences have polarized us; and what we can do to envision and address the problem more effectively together. \n“How We Imagine Climate Change and Why It Matters” is being held during Centerville’s hosting of Water/Ways. The event will take place at Cope Environmental Center (CEC) on April 12th. \nDrinks will be available from 6:00PM-6:30PM\, followed directly after by Hess’ talk. After the presentation\, drinks will be offered again\, and a bonfire will be available on CEC’s patio (weather permitting) to encourage conversations. \nCost is $12 per CEC member and $15 per CEC non-member. More information about this event can be found by visiting CEC’s website or calling 765.855.3188. \nPlease Note: This program is for adults only.

SUMMARY:Water/Ways Indiana Tour: Centerville
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Cope Environmental Center in Centerville to see Water/Ways! Please visit the Cope Environmental Center website to confirm visitation times and guidelines. \nThe Smithsonian’s Water/Ways exhibition dives into water–an essential component of life on our planet\, environmentally\, culturally\, and historically.  \nIn societies across the globe\, water serves as a source of peace and contemplation. Many faiths revere water as a sacred symbol. Authors and artists are inspired by the complex character of water–a substance that is seemingly soft and graceful that is yet a powerful and nearly unstoppable force.  \nWater also plays a practical role in American society. The availability of water affected settlement and migration patterns. Access to water and control of water resources have long been a central part of political and economic planning. Human creativity and resourcefulness provide new ways of protecting water resources and renewing respect for the natural environment.
