SUMMARY:MLK Remembrance Week: History Walk for Community
DESCRIPTION:To commemorate the passing of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.\, the City of Bloomington’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission will host a series of events in early April. The History Walk for Community will feature five historically significant African American sites in Bloomington: Rev. Ernest D. Butler Park (812 W. 9th St.)\, Banneker Community Center (930 W. 7th St.)\, Fairview Elementary School (500 W. 7th St.)\, Bethel AME Church (302 N. Rogers St.) and Second Baptist Church (321 N. Rogers St.). \nParticipants may begin the tour at any of the sites. Historians will be present at each site to tell its story\, and each location will also feature commissioned artwork. Self-guided tours are also permitted using downloadable maps (check back for those a week before the event) and audio files that will be available after the event. \nFor more information and to view additonal programs as part of MLK Remembrance Week\, visit the city’s MLK Remembrance Week website. You may also email mlk@bloomington.in.gov for additional details. \nThis program received support from an Indiana Humanities Action Grant.
