SUMMARY:Last Sunday Poetry Reading and Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:The Writers Guild at Bloomington presents Last Sunday Poetry\, featuring readings by poets Steve Henn and Josh A. Brewer. Participants can share their own work at an open-mic session following the readings. \nSteve Henn teaches high school English in northern Indiana. His books include Indiana Noble Sad Man of the Year (2017)\, Guilty Prayer (2021)\, and Trying to Catch a Flame in this Windstorm at the End of the World (2025). His latest book\, Deep Cuts\, is due out from Wolfson Press in 2026. \nJosh A. Brewer reviews poetry for Harvard Review. He’s the author of When Is a Will and editor of Writers Resist: Hoosier Writers Unite and a forthcoming poetry textbook. He currently teaches writing and literature at Purdue University and has also taught at the University of Miami\, the University of South Carolina\, Tennessee State University\, Ivy Tech Community College\, and Aquinas College. His work has been published in Southeast Review\, RHINO\, Booth\, Bluestem\, Common Ground Review\, Sargasso\, and elsewhere. \nOrganizers encourage guests to arrive 20 to 50 minutes before the 7 p.m. program start time so they can sign up for the open mic; meet the featured poets\, the event host\, and other Writers Guild members; and purchase books. DESCRIPTION:Join the Writers Guild at Bloomington for an author visit from Angela Jackson-Brown! \nThe event will be a special edition of the monthly First Sunday Prose reading series presented by the Writers Guild at Bloomington. It will be held from 2-3:30pm (EST) at Juniper Art Gallery (615 W. Kirkwood Ave.\, Bloomington IN 47404). The featured prose writer will give a reading followed by an author Q&A session instead of the usual open mic. The Q&A will be a conversational exchange between the First Sunday Prose host and the featured writer\, after which audience members will be invited to participate. The program will conclude with an author book signing. The featured author’s book(s) will be placed at the reading venue for post-reading signing and purchase.
