SUMMARY:Hubert Ver Mehren and His Quilts\, Kits\, and Catalogs
DESCRIPTION:Step into the fascinating world of one of quilting’s most mysterious figures in this illuminating lecture on Hubert Ver Mehren and his significant impact on the quilt world of the 1930s. \nDespite his remarkable influence\, Ver Mehren remains largely unknown to many quilt enthusiasts—a creative genius who marketed his extraordinary patterns anonymously or under pseudonyms. This presentation pulls back the curtain on his secretive career and showcases the breathtaking scope of his design sensibility. \nVer Mehren’s patterns are considered some of the most complex and dramatic designs of their day\, ranging from spectacular giant medallions to elegant embroideries. The lecture will explore his distinctive aesthetic and why his work represented the pinnacle of quilt design during this vibrant period in quilting history. \nLearn how Ver Mehren’s artistic vision challenged conventional design boundaries and influenced quilting trends of the era\, even as the man himself remained in the shadows. Discover why quilt historians consider his rediscovery so significant and what his work reveals about the evolution of American quilting. \nThis presentation complements the special Hubert Ver Mehren exhibit currently on display at the Quilters Hall of Fame museum\, offering deeper context and appreciation for these remarkable works. \nFor more information\, visit the Quilters Hall of Fame website\, email admin@quiltershalloffame.net\, or call 765.664.9333. \nThis program received support from an Indiana Humanities Action Grant.

SUMMARY:1876 Centennial Quilt Project Gallery Talk
DESCRIPTION:Nearly a decade ago\, a quilting group from northwest Washington state discovered in an online quilt history forum an extraordinary quilt known as the 1876 Centennial Quilt. Set in a unique medallion-style arrangement\, the Centennial Quilt contains over 70 individual block patterns. After securing permission from the owner\, members of the quilt group began the journey of patterning the Centennial Quilt. Each of the quiltmakers skillfully and beautifully interpreted the original quilt in a wide variety of styles. As they honed their skills\, they learned much about themselves and forged lasting friendships. The Quilters Hall of Fame is currently exhibiting a mix of the reinterpreted quilts from the original project begun in 2015 as well as more recent creations that have been added as the reach of the 1876 Centennial Quilt Project has grown. The exhibit invites you to enjoy the quilts\, read the stories of the people who created them\, and to begin your own journey with the 1876 Centennial Quilt. Anne Dawson of the Quilter’s Studio curated the exhibit\, and at this gallery talk\, she’ll walk through the Quilter Hall of Fame’s galleries sharing information about each quilt. \nIn addition to this program\, Anne Dawson will also give another gallery talk on July 20 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. and will deliver a presentation on July 22 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. \nThe exhibition is open to the public during the Quilters Hall of Fame’s regular hours\, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults\, $6 for seniors and students\, and free for children under 12 who are accompanied by an adult. \nFor more information contact the Quilters Hall of Fame at admin@quiltershalloffame.net or 765.664.9333. Learn more about the 1876 Centennial Quilt in this video. \nThis program received support from an Indiana Humanities Action Grant.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: 1876 Centennial Quilt Project
DESCRIPTION:After discovering an extraordinary quilt from Connecticut—known as the 1876 Centennial Quilt—in an online quilt history forum and securing permission from its owner\, a quilt group from northwest Washington state began the journey of patterning it. The 1876 Centennial Quilt is set in a unique medallion-style arrangement and contains over 70 individual block patterns. The quiltmakers from Washington created new quilts that skillfully and beautifully interpreted the 1876 Centennial Quilt\, and their pieces represent a wide variety of styles. As the quiltmakers honed their skills\, they learned much about themselves and forged lasting friendships. This exhibition\, curated by Anne Dawson of the Quilter’s Studio\, displays 14 of the quilts they made as well as the original 1876 Centennial Quilt that they interpreted. They invite you to enjoy their quilts\, read their stories and begin your own journey with the 1876 Centennial Quilt.
