SUMMARY:The Last Adieu: Lafayette’s Farewell Tour and the Carriage That Carried a Nation’s Memory
DESCRIPTION:The Studebaker National Museum welcomes author and historian Ryan L. Cole for an engaging evening celebrating his new book\, The Last Adieu: Lafayette’s Triumphant Return\, the Echoes of Revolution\, and the Gratitude of the Republic. Cole will bring to life the remarkable 1824–1825 grand tour in which the Marquis de Lafayette—the last living major general of the Continental Army—journeyed through all twenty-four states of the young republic\, inspiring hundreds of celebrations\, parades\, and events in his honor. Arriving on American shores\, Lafayette himself wrote that “memories of the Revolution have come back to life”—a sentiment that feels just as resonant today as America prepares to mark its 250th anniversary. Lafayette’s tour\, and the outpouring of gratitude it inspired\, offers a powerful lens through which we can shape our own celebration of America 250. \nThe evening then moves to one of the Studebaker National Museum’s most extraordinary artifacts\, as Curator Kyle Sater shares the fascinating story behind one of the carriages Lafayette used during his celebrated tour of the United States\, a permanent part of the museum’s collection. Following both talks\, guests are invited to enjoy a Q&A session\, light refreshments\, and the chance to explore the rest of the museum at their leisure. \nDoors open at 5:30 p.m.\, and the program runs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tickets are free\, but reservations are highly encouraged. Register by clicking on the RSVP link above. \nAbout Ryan Cole\nRyan L. Cole is the author of Light-Horse Harry Lee: Rise and Fall of a Revolutionary Hero and The Last Adieu: Lafayette’s Triumphant Return\, the Echoes of Revolution\, and the Gratitude of the Republic. He has delivered lectures around the country\, including at the Hudson Historical Society\, the Indiana Historical Society\, and the Library of Congress. His writing has appeared in the Wall Street Journal\, American Heritage\, Civil War Journal\, and the Indianapolis Star\, among other publications. He lives in Indiana. \nFor more information\, email the Studebaker National Museum at museum@studebakermuseum.org or call 574.235.9714. \nThis program received support from an Indiana Humanities Mini-Grant.

SUMMARY:THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION Screening & Discussion (Evansville)
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence\, clips from the new PBS documentary “The American Revolution” will be shown at the Evansville Wartime Museum on June 13\, 2026 from 3-5pm Central. The program will feature clips from the longer 12-part series\, followed by a panel conversation featuring local experts. Light refreshments will be served. \nThis program has been made possible by Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations\, WNIN\, and Indiana Humanities\, with special thanks to the Evansville Wartime Museum. \nABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY \nTHE AMERICAN REVOLUTION\, directed by Ken Burns\, Sarah Botstein\, and David Schmidt examines how America’s founding turned the world upside-down. Thirteen British colonies on the Atlantic Coast rose in rebellion\, won their independence\, and established a new form of government that radically reshaped the continent and inspired centuries of democratic movements around the globe. \nAn expansive look at the virtues and contradictions of the war and the birth of the United States of America\, the film follows dozens of figures from a wide variety of backgrounds. Through their individual stories\, viewers experience the war through the memories of the men and women who experienced it: the rank-and-file Continental soldiers and American militiamen (some of them teenagers)\, Patriot political and military leaders\, British Army officers\, American Loyalists\, Native soldiers and civilians\, enslaved and free African Americans\, German soldiers in the British service\, French and Spanish allies\, and various civilians living in North America\, Loyalist as well as Patriot\, including many made refugees by the war. \nThe Revolution began a movement for people around the world to imagine new and better futures for themselves\, their nations\, and for humanity. It declared American independence with promises that we continue to strive for. The American Revolution opened the door to advance civil liberties and human rights\, and it asked questions that we are still trying to answer today. \nABOUT THE PROGRAM \nCorporate funding for The American Revolution was provided by Bank of America. Major funding was provided by The Better Angels Society and its members Jeannie and Jonathan Lavine with the Crimson Lion Foundation; and the Blavatnik Family Foundation. Major funding was also provided by David M. Rubenstein; The Robert D. and Patricia E. SUMMARY:The Spirit of Service: Liberty & Legacy
DESCRIPTION:Selected scenes from PBS’s THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION will explore the sacrifice\, endurance\, and spirit of service that shaped a new nation. \nThe evening will also honor Revolutionary War Patriots and pioneer families who later settled in Delaware County\, Indiana\, and introduce genealogy tools for discovering your own Patriot connection. \nFeaturing:\nTheresa Green\, Indiana State DAR Registrar\nKathryn Kesterson\, Regent\, Paul Revere Chapter\nNational Archives Resources & DAR Genealogical Research System \nABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY \nTHE AMERICAN REVOLUTION\, directed by Ken Burns\, Sarah Botstein\, and David Schmidt examines how America’s founding turned the world upside-down. It declared American independence with promises that we continue to strive for. The American Revolution opened the door to advance civil liberties and human rights\, and it asked questions that we are still trying to answer today. \nABOUT THE PROGRAM \nCorporate funding for The American Revolution was provided by Bank of America. SUMMARY:Everyday Arts in Later Life: Presentation and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Discover the joy and benefits of creativity in later life! This presentation by folklorist and creative-aging researcher Jon Kay\, invites attendees to explore how everyday arts practices—such as quilting\, woodcarving\, crochet\, music making\, gardening\, cooking\, collecting\, and more—can enrich elder well-being. \nThe presentation highlights how creative pursuits help older adults resist what experts call the “three plagues of aging”: isolation\, boredom\, and helplessness. Through stories\, examples\, and practical tips\, Kay demonstrates how engaging in “everyday arts” can strengthen social bonds and bring a renewed sense of purpose and meaning in later life. \nAfter the presentation\, Kay will lead a discussion encouraging attendees to discover their own creative practice. Whether you want to adopt a new hobby\, revive an old one\, or maintain the creative practice you already have\, this session offers both information and inspiration. You’ll learn strategies for identifying an art form that is right for you\, and you’ll leave the workshop with a toolkit of activities designed to keep you socially active and creatively fulfilled. \nJoin us and discover how later life can be a time of meaningful growth\, connection\, and purpose! The program is presented jointly by Indiana Humanities and Indiana University’s Traditional Arts Indiana. As a special thank-you\, all participants will receive a free copy of Everyday Arts in Later Life\, a book highlighting the role of creativity as we age.
