SUMMARY:Palm Sunday Tornadoes Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:On April 11\, 1965\, one of the worst tornado outbreaks in U.S. history struck Indiana\, leaving paths of destruction in the central and northern parts of the state. \nHoward County was hit hard. Over the course of about 20 minutes\, a tornado leveled the towns of Russiaville and Alto and killed 13 people in and around Greentown in the eastern part of the county. Across Indiana\, 137 people lost their lives. \nIn recognition of the 60th anniversary of the Palm Sunday tornadoes\, the Greentown Historical Society presents an exhibit about the destruction the tornadoes caused\, the impact they had\, and the recovery efforts. Through text\, photos\, and artifacts\, the exhibit tells the stories of Greentown residents who were affected and their resilience in rebuilding the community. \nThe Palm Sunday tornadoes exhibit is on view at the Greentown Historical Society through December 6. SUMMARY:"Getting from Here to There": Indiana's Historic Pathways Teacher Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join third- and fourth-grade teachers\, along with interested members of the public\, for the tenth installment of Indiana’s Historic Pathways’ workshop “Getting from Here to There.” Focused on southern Indiana history\, this single-day workshop offers participants the opportunty to engage with expert speakers\, develop lesson plans\, and participate in a teacher-led panel discussion exploring innovative classroom learning ideas. The workshop’s subject matter aligns with Indiana’s academic standards and is especially ideal for teachers who cover Indiana history in their classrooms. In addition to exploring creative and exciting ways to teach this material\, teachers will learn about new developments in their field\, obtain curricular materials for the classroom\, and network with other educators.
