Women in the Fire Service
Explore the history of women firefighters and learn what it's like to be a female firefighter today
Event Details

The Vintage Fire Museum presents “Women in the Fire Service,” a presentation and panel that explores the role of women firefighters past and present. Dr. Maria Bucur, professor of history at Indiana University Bloomington, will discuss the history of women in the fire service, and a panel of women firefighters from the Kentuckiana area will examine the challenges and rewards that they encounter today. Participants can view a new exhibition on women in the fire service, beginning with bucket brigades and telling the story through the present.

This program received funding from an Indiana Humanities Action Grant.
