Event Details

This spring the League of Women Voters of Hancock County sponsored a community-wide read of Bryan Stevenson’s book Just Mercy, which recounts Stevenson’s founding of the Equal Justice Initiative and his efforts to free innocent men from death row. The league has sponsored a series of community programs to explore the themes of the book, and on July 8 it will host a public forum about social justice within the criminal justice system. Panelists will introduce the topic and answer questions from audience members; they include:

  • Fran Watson, an attorney who teaches at Indiana University’s McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis and serves as director of the Wrongful Conviction Clinic
  • Michelle Wade, an attorney with the Hancock County prosecutor’s office
  • Michael Cunegin II, who retired from the Fort Wayne police department after 26 years and who served on the Allen County Council for 14 years; he’s now a minister living in Indianapolis
  • Charles Neal, a community leader, minister and board member of Recycle Force

For more information, contact Linda Dunn,  league president, at 317.448.5992 or lwvhancockcounty@gmail.com.

Attendance is limited to 30 due to remaining COVID restrictions for indoor events.

This program received support from an Indiana Humanities INcommon Grant.
