In this workshop, participants will explore what art means and how it is seen, represented and transmitted in Indianapolis by locals and visitors alike. Using geo-tagged datasets from Yelp, Instagram and Twitter, they will take part in a hands-on activity to understand the role of art, literature and music in the city and what locations are more connected to the Indianapolis artistic scene. They’ll then discuss how we can use that information to pursue social and economic justice initiatives in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Johnny DiBlassi, assistant professor of digital media and science visualization in Iowa State University’s Department of Art and Visual Culture, will lead the workshop.
The workshop will take place in the Krannert Memorial Library’s third-floor computer lab.
