From the Colts’ Super Bowl victory in 2007 to the Pacers’ NBA Finals run in 2000, many highlight-reel moments dot the sports history of Indianapolis. In that same champagne-spraying spirit, we want to take you on a tour of some important sports backstories and lesser-known moments from the city’s locker rooms, gymnasiums and yellowed scrapbooks.
On Wednesday, July 24, Indiana Humanities’ annual historic “bar” crawl returns. This year’s theme, Huddle Up: A Boozy Throwback Through Indy Sports History, races through a century of Circle City sports, with plenty of drinks to keep you and your teammates hydrated. Along the way you’ll witness Hoosiers on and off the court battling for Title IX, see the spot where Major Taylor first performed cycling tricks before earning worldwide fame, and learn other surprising stories from Indianapolis athletics history.
Attendees will visit six locations (some bars, some surprise locations) in downtown Indianapolis, enjoying Sun King Beers, signature cocktails and themed snacks; at each stop, Indiana Historical Society actors will bring the past to life. So grab your tracksuit, lace up your sneakers and get in the game by purchasing your tickets today!
