The first Sunday of the month, the Allen County–Fort Wayne Historical Society presents the George R. Mather Sunday Lecture Series. The series consists of a number of informative lectures presented by subject-matter experts, in an effort to educate the community on local history and often to illuminate the role that Allen County people and events have played in the broader scope of national and international affairs.
This month’s lecture is “Families Lost and Found: Tracing My Viennese Roots after the Holocaust,” presented by Irv Adler. Adler will share an intriguing story about tracing his Viennese roots while searching for information about his grandmother and family. The discovery of letters written by his grandmother from 1938 to 1941 identified unknown relatives, resulting in a poignant reunion. Adler will chronicle his family’s Holocaust story and the path followed to discover, meet and become acquainted with long-lost family members.
