The Gary Redevelopment Commission will offer tours exploring the architectural and cultural heritage of Gary’s historic districts. There are two ways to participate:
The open house begins at 504 Broadway, where participants will receive an informational pamphlet containing historic content, photos, tour maps and trivia questions. Participants may then visit at their leisure 12 sites throughout Gary’s historic city center. Each site will be staffed with volunteers and open for visitors to enjoy. Registration is not required for the open house.
As another option, participants may sign up for a guided tour beginning at 504 Broadway. Guides will then take participants to locations in the historic Horace Mann and Morningside neighborhoods, discussing their history and various architectural styles. Each tour will last approximately two hours. Space is limited, and registration is required through the links provided on this page.
Not free to attend? The Gary Redevelopment Commission will host another open house on Saturday, July 14.
This program received funding from a Historic Preservation Education Grant.
