You can explore the power of nature and how technology has changed with this fieldtrip to ride the Dixie Sternwheel Boat and a behind-the-scenes tour of Northwest Indiana Weather Station in Syracuse, Indiana. The Dixie Sternwheeler, originally based on the steam engine and built in 1929, is Indiana’s oldest sternwheel paddleboat still being used. In the book, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, we can see how nature was harnessed to bring alive Frankenstein’s monster and how a change in technology can revolutionize the world. The first 20 people will be free thanks to the grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and in partnership with the Indiana State Library and Indiana Center for the Book. Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to and between the two locations. You must sign up to attend. Registration for event will begin June 4.
