Event Details

This spring the Marion Public Library hosted the traveling exhibition Telling a People’s Story: African- American Children’s Illustrated Literature. Although the exhibition is now closed, the library continues to host accompanying programs. In this event, Omotayo Rite of Passage will lead a drum circle for youth in grades K through 8.

Omotayo Rite of Passage offers an innovative African dance/music program designed to improve and maintain young people’s sense of pride, while enhancing the development of their artistic skills and talents. The program utilizes dance, music, folklore, and history as a medium to nourish the creativity of children and stimulate academic success.

The drum circle takes place at Marion’s Matter Park bandshell. Spaces are limited and registration is required. For more information, contact the Marion Public Library at mplm@marion.lib.in.us or 765.668.2900.

This program received support from an Indiana Humanities Action Grant.
